Meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials on safety and efficacy of exercise training in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm

Journal of Vascular Surgery Feb 25, 2019

Kato M, et al. - A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials was undertaken to determine the safety of exercise training and its effects on exercise capacity in abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) patients. Assessing 341 trials for relevance, researchers analyzed 7 trials with a combined total of 489 participants. Outcomes suggest that among AAA patients, exercise training was identified as generally safe, however, they recommend performing research to further clarify the safety among patients with large AAAs. AAA patients displayed improvement in peak oxygen consumption and anaerobic threshold in correlation to exercise training.
