Smer A, et al. - Patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure as a strategy for secondary prevention of stroke in patients with cryptogenic stroke (CS) was assessed. PFO closure versus medical therapy was shown to be related to a significantly lower risk of recurrent stroke in patients with PFO and CS; however, closure patients more frequently develop atrial fibrillation.
