Meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials of early vs delayed cholecystectomy for mild gallstone pancreatitis
British Journal of Surgery Jul 14, 2019
Moody N, et al. - Researchers sought for RCTs investigating early vs delayed cholecystectomy in patients with a confirmed diagnosis of mild gallstone pancreatitis via searching Embase, MEDLINE and Cochrane databases. Five RCTs including 629 patients (318 in the early cholecystectomy (EC) group and 311 in the delayed cholecystectomy group) were identified. The analysis revealed no increase in the risk of intraoperative or postoperative complications in correlation to EC following mild gallstone pancreatitis, however, there was a reduction in the readmission rate for recurrent biliary complications.
