Meta-analysis of patient-reported outcomes after laparoscopic vs open inguinal hernia repair
British Journal of Surgery Mar 26, 2019
Patterson TJ, et al. - Researchers reviewed and meta-analyzed the patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in RCTs comparing laparoscopic vs open inguinal hernia repair techniques in adult patients. From the 7192 identified records, they selected 58 unique RCTs. In correlation to laparoscopic hernia repair, significantly less postoperative pain was reported in three intervals: from 2 weeks to within 6 months after surgery, 6 months to 1 year and 1 year onwards. The laparoscopic repair group, in addition, had significantly better paraesthesia and patient-reported satisfaction.
