Meta-analysis of effect of modest (≥ 10%) weight loss in management of overweight and obese patients with atrial fibrillation
The American Journal of Cardiology Aug 29, 2019
Aldaas OM, Lupercio F, Han FT, et al. - In overweight or obese patients with established atrial fibrillation (AF), whether a modest weight loss of ≥ 10% of initial body weight is sufficient to improve outcomes was investigated via a systematic review of the literature data. The studies that compared weight loss of ≥ 10% vs weight loss of less than 10% or weight gain and evaluated results including recurrence of AF as assessed via a Holter monitor, AF burden and improvement in AF symptom severity, were identified and analyzed. Overall 5 studies involving 548 patients were included. Findings revealed that less risk of recurrent AF, reduction in AF burden and improvement in AF symptom severity were observed in correlation with weight loss.
