Joshee P, et al. - Researchers performed this meta-analysis to assess what cognitive domains are affected after kidney transplantation, and how their performance differs with that of non-transplanted patients or healthy controls/normative data. They searched 458 unique studies, 10 of which met the inclusion criteria. Study data revealed domain-specific cognitive improvement following successful transplantation but still, the performance in some domains was significantly below healthy controls. They found existing studies had important shortcomings, including typically short follow-up and use of only limited neuropsychological test batteries.
