Meta-analysis of acetylsalicylic acid desensitization in patients with acute coronary syndrome
The American Journal of Cardiology Apr 15, 2019
Chopra AM, et al. – In this meta-analysis, researchers investigated whether acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) desensitization therapy is safe and efficacious for acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients. They identified 15 reports with 480 ACS patients with prior hypersensitivity to ASA from PubMed database using keywords, “aspirin desensitization” or “aspirin hypersensitivity” and “acute coronary syndrome”. They found higher success rates related to protocols with > 6 dose escalations vs those with ≤ 6 doses. They found no hypersensitivity adverse events during follow-up between 1 and 46 months (mode 12 months). Overall, the findings highlighted the safety and efficacy of ASA desensitization therapy in patients with ACS.
