Meta-analysis evaluating the efficacy and safety of low-intensity warfarin for patients >65 years of age with non-valvular atrial fibrillation
The American Journal of Cardiology Dec 11, 2020
Kang F, Ma Y, Cai A, et al. - Researchers performed this meta-analysis to determine the efficacy as well as safety of low and standard intensity warfarin therapy for patients over 65 years suffering from non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF), to ultimately assess optimal INR intensity of warfarin therapy in patients over 65 years. They found 18 studies offering data of 2,105 patients undergoing anticoagulation therapy with warfarin. Findings revealed the equal effectiveness of low intensity INR(1.5-2.0) of warfarin therapy vs standard intensity INR(2.0-3.0) therapy in decreasing thromboembolic risk in patients > 65 years with NVAF, and low intensity INR(1.5-2.0) was found to have a safer profile of bleeding in these patients.
