Meta-analysis evaluating outcomes of surgical left atrial appendage occlusion during cardiac surgery
The American Journal of Cardiology Sep 05, 2019
Ibrahim AM, Tandan N, Koester C, et al. - Researchers evaluated outcomes of surgical left atrial appendage occlusion (S-LAAO) during cardiac surgery, focusing on ischemic stroke, postoperative atrial fibrillation, and all-cause mortality, via this meta-analysis of literature data. Through a literature review, they identified 10 relevant studies with 6,779 patients who underwent S-LAAO and 6,573 who did not undergo LAAO. As per the evidence gained, lower events of ischemic stroke or systemic embolism and all-cause mortality were reported in relation to S-LAAO vs the non-LAAO group.
