Meta-analysis comparing percutaneous coronary revascularization using drug-eluting stent vs coronary artery bypass grafting in patients with left ventricular systolic dysfunction
The American Journal of Cardiology Aug 24, 2018
Cui K, et al. - Researchers compared the safety and efficacy of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with drug-eluting stent (DES) vs coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in patients with left ventricular (LV) systolic dysfunction to identify the optimal strategy. For this purpose, they identified and analyzed eight eligible adjusted observational studies involving 10,268 patients via electronic databases from January 1, 2003 to March 1, 2018, focusing on all-cause death during the longest follow-up. According to findings, higher risk of all-cause mortality, cardiac mortality, myocardial infarction and repeat revascularization were observed in relation to PCI with DES vs CABG in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and LV systolic dysfunction and consequently, CABG seemed to be better than PCI with DES in these subjects, and especially in patients with severe LV systolic dysfunction or those with left main and/or multivessel disease.
