Meta-analysis comparing outcomes of therapies for patients with central sleep apnea and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction
The American Journal of Cardiology Apr 29, 2020
Voigt J, Emani R, Gupta S, et al. - In this meta-analysis, researchers sought to compare outcomes of therapies for patients with central sleep apnea (CSA) and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). Nineteen randomized studies have been identified that met the inclusion criteria of apnea hypopnea index ≥ 10, predominant CSA, and HFrEF ≤ 50%. According to findings, adaptive servo ventilation and CPAP therapies boost sleep, but there was a lack of long-term QoL or cardiovascular benefit. Transvenous phrenic nerve stimulation showed promising results on sleep and QoL with favorable trends in cardiovascular outcomes at 6 months.
