Meta-analysis comparing outcomes of percutaneous coronary intervention of native artery vs bypass graft in patients with prior coronary artery bypass grafting

The American Journal of Cardiology Nov 04, 2020

Farag M, Gue YX, Brilakis ES, et al. - Via performing a systematic review and meta-analysis, researchers sought to determine long-term clinical outcomes of patients with prior coronary artery bypass graft surgery who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) of either bypass graft or native artery. They included 22 observational studies involving 40,984 patients. Relative to bypass graft PCI, native artery PCI was common (61% vs. 39%) and was linked with lower major adverse cardiac events, lower all-cause death, lower myocardial infarction, and lower target vessel revascularization at a median follow-up of 2 years. Based on findings, they suggest that consideration can be given to native artery PCI as the preferred treatment for bypass graft failure.
