Meta-analysis comparing catheter guided ablation vs conventional medical therapy for patients with atrial fibrillation and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction
The American Journal of Cardiology Jun 12, 2018
Elgendy AY, et al. - Researchers analyzed data from randomized controlled trials reporting on the comparative prognostic benefits of catheter ablation (CA) vs conventional medical therapy in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) in the setting of heart failure (HF) with reduced ejection fraction (EF). A total of 775 ambulatory patients from 6 trials were assessed, with a mean follow-up of 26 months. All-cause mortality was the primary outcome, and HF hospitalizations, stroke, left ventricular EF improvement, change in 6-minute walk test and change in Minnesota living with heart failure questionnaire were the secondary outcomes. Findings suggested that relative to medical therapy, CA of AF appeared to be related to improved rates of survival and HF hospitalizations. The rate of procedural complications, major and minor, was 7.3%.
