Meta-analysis and systematic review of intravascular ultrasound vs angiography-guided drug eluting stent implantation in left main coronary disease in 4592 patients
BMC Cardiovascular Disorders Jun 21, 2018
Wang Y, et al. - Researchers analyzed data from studies comparing the outcomes after intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) vs conventional angiography when used for guidance during implantation of drug-eluting stent (DES) in patients with left main coronary artery (LMCA) disease. They reviewed 1,002 publications identified from Pubmed, Cochrane Library, Embase. The meta-analysis included one prospective randomized controlled trial and six observational studies with 4,592 patients (1,907 IVUS-guided and 2,685 angiography-guided). They found that IVUS-guided DES implantation vs angiographic guidance was associated with better clinical outcomes for patients with LMCA lesions, especially death, myocardial infarction, and stent thrombosis.
