Mesh vs suture repair of umbilical hernia in adults: A randomised, double-blind, controlled, multicentre trial
The Lancet Feb 23, 2018
Kaufmann R, et al. - The objective herein was to determine if the use of a mesh was better in reducing recurrence compared with suture repair for smaller umbilical hernias. When compared to the suture group, fewer recurrences were reported in the mesh group. High-level evidence was gained in support of mesh repair in patients with small hernias of diameter 1–4 cm. Therefore, data recommended the use of mesh repair for operations on all patients with an umbilical hernia of this size.
