Menstrual pain and risk of epithelial ovarian cancer

International Journal of Cancer Aug 29, 2017

Babic A et al. - The current study showed there to be an increase in the risk for ovarian cancer in women with severe menstrual pain.

Methods
Menstrual pain was queried using direct (i.e., actual pain)  or indirect (i.e., use of hormones) questions.

Results
No association was demonstrated between ovarian cancer and menstrual pain assessed by indirect questions.
Severe pain was associated with a small, but significant increase in overall risk of ovarian cancer (OR=1.07).
The association between severe menstrual pain and ovarian cancer was more relevant for clear cell (OR=1.48) and serous borderline (OR=1.31) subtypes.
