Menopausal symptoms and risk of heart failure: A retrospective analysis from Taiwan National Health Insurance Database
ESC Heart Failure Jun 24, 2021
Huang CH, Kor CT, Chang CC, et al. - Researchers investigated if and how menopausal symptoms could influence the risk of heart failure (HF). They used the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database (as the experimental cohort), to select 14,340 symptomatic menopausal women without a history of coronary heart disease (CHD) or HF. This analysis also involved 14,340 asymptomatic females matched for age and comorbidities as controls. Findings revealed a connection of menopausal symptoms with CHD risk but not with risk of HF. In middle-aged women, there exist essential roles of conventional risk factors, instead of menopausal symptoms, in the HF risk.
