Meniscus repair does not result in an inferior short-term outcome compared with meniscus resection. An analysis of 5,378 patients with primary anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction
Arthroscopy Dec 14, 2019
Cristiani R., et al. - In this analysis, 5,378 individuals who underwent primary anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR), with no related ligament injuries, from January 2005 to December 2015 were added to contrast the preoperative and 1- and 2-year postoperative Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) subscale scores between isolated ACLR and ACLR with additional medial meniscus (MM) and/or lateral meniscus (LM) resection or repair. For any of the KOOS subscales at 1- and 2-year postoperative follow-ups, people who underwent isolated ACLR and ACLR with additional MM and/or LM resection or repair obtained comparable results. Moreover, variations between the groups were only discoverable preoperatively, with individuals who underwent ACLR + MM + LM repair exhibiting the least scores for the Symptoms, Pain, Activities of Daily Living, and Sport/Rec KOOS subscales.
