Melatonin for non-operating room sedation in paediatric population: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Archives of Diseases in Childhood Apr 04, 2021
Ahmed J, Patel W, Pullattayil AK, et al. - In this systematic review and meta-analysis, researchers tested the effectiveness and safety of melatonin for non-operating room sedation in children. Studies using melatonin and documenting one of the prespecified outcomes of this study were searched until April 9, 2020, in Medline, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health. Twenty-five studies (clinical trials = 3, observational studies = 9, descriptive studies = 13) were involved. Despite the fact that several studies were identified and no serious safety concerns were raised, the evidence was insufficient to establish melatonin's efficacy for non-operating room sedation in children.
