Melasma and thyroid disorders: A systematic review and meta-analysis
International Journal of Dermatology Jun 06, 2019
Kheradmand M, et al. - Using a systematic review and meta-analysis, researchers assessed serum levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), T4, T3, anti-thyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO), and antithyroglobulin between patients with melasma vs a control group. For this analysis, they incorporated seven studies, 473 cases, and 379 controls that were examined. According to results, P value of meta-analysis exhibited a significant link between anti-TPO serum level and melasma. In patients with melasma vs those without, serum levels of TSH, anti-TPO, and antithyroglobulin antibody were significantly greater. Furthermore, among women with melasma, these differences were more severe.
