Medium- and long-chain acylcarnitines are associated with osteoarthritis severity and arterial stiffness in end-stage osteoarthritis patients: A case-control study
International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases Jan 10, 2018
Tootsi K, et al. - This study entailed a comparison between osteoarthritis (OA) patients and controls in terms of the metabolic profile of lipid metabolism-related compounds and arterial stiffness. In OA patients, decreased levels of acylcarnitines were detected. In addition, findings showed an independent association of medium-and long-chain acylcarnitines with arterial stiffness. Researchers found that medium-and long-chain acylcarnitines were related to radiographic severity of OA. Overall, these data suggest a possibly crucial role of acylcarnities in the link between OA and cardiovascular diseases.
