Medium- and long-chain acylcarnitines are associated with osteoarthritis severity and arterial stiffness in end-stage osteoarthritis patients: A case-control study
International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases Apr 12, 2018
Tootsi K, et al. - Experts compared the metabolic profile of lipid metabolism-related compounds and arterial stiffness in osteoarthritis (OA) patients and in controls. Findings suggested that in OA patients, decreased levels of acylcarnitines were seen. Moreover, authors noted an independent association of medium-and long-chain acylcarnitines with arterial stiffness and were related to the radiographic severity of OA. Therefore, an important role could be played by acylcarnities in the association between OA and cardiovascular diseases.
