Wang KN, et al. - Residents of long-term care facilities (LTCFs) are known to be at high risk of hospitalization and medications are a potentially modifiable risk factor for hospitalizations. The link between medications or prescribing patterns and hospitalizations from LTCFs was determined by analyzing data from longitudinal studies. By high-quality evidence, influenza vaccination attenuated hospitalization. Polypharmacy and potentially inappropriate medications were shown to be consistently related to increased all-cause hospitalization.
