Medication use and kidney cancer risk: A population-based study
European Journal of Cancer Aug 29, 2017
Nayan M, et al. – This population–based study attempted to examine medication use and kidney cancer risk. Increasing cumulative exposure to acetylsalicylic acid, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, and proton–pump inhibitors were associated with significantly reduced risk of kidney cancer when utilising fractional polynomials. On the other hand, increasing exposure to antihypertensive drugs was associated with significantly increased risk. In order to identify modifiable pharmacological interventions to reduce the risk of kidney cancer, these outcomes called for further exploration regarding the effect of commonly prescribed medications on carcinogenesis.
