Medication exposure and risk of recurrent Clostridium difficile infection in community-dwelling older people and nursing home residents
Journal of the American Geriatrics Society Nov 14, 2017
Haran JP, et al. - Medication exposures were examined to determine whether the risk of recurrent Clostridium difficile infection (rCDI) differed according to living environment. Compared to antibiotic use, the risk of rCDI was greater with acid-reducing medication use after initial Clostridium difficile infection treatment, even though the risk varied depending on the living environment. In nursing home (NH) residents, corticosteroid use was correlated with greater risk of recurrence but lower the risk in community-dwelling elderly adults.
