Medical conditions and modifiable risk factors for myelodysplastic syndrome: A systematic review
Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention Jun 25, 2019
Sweeney MR, et al. - Researchers used the 2001 or 2008 World Health Organization diagnostic criteria to assess medical conditions and modifiable risk factors for myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) in this systematic review. They analyzed 13 studies published from January 2001 to August 2017, which were identified from PubMed, MEDLINE, and Scopus databases. A higher risk of MDS was found in relation to higher BMI, smoking, a history of autoimmune disorders, community acquired infections, history of anemia, and use of anti-tuberculosis drugs. A lower MDS risk was observed in relation to vigorous physical activity, and tea and dietary isoflavone consumption. There was no link between the other factors and risk of MDS.
