Medial unicompartmental knee arthroplasty after failed open-wedge high tibial osteotomy
Journal of Arthroplasty Apr 06, 2021
Parente A, Legnani C, Bargagliotti M, et al. - A retrospective study was performed to explore clinical, radiological, and functional outcomes of unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) after failed open-wedge high tibial osteotomy (HTO) compared with UKA with no previous HTO. Researchers compared 24 post-HTO UKAs (group A) with an average follow-up of 8.1 years (range: 5 to 13) with a control group of 30 patients undergoing simple UKA (group B) with an average follow-up of 9.5 years (range: 2 to 16) Between 2001 and 2017. They assessed Mechanical coronal alignment and Caton-Deschamps index both preoperatively and postoperatively. This study’s findings illustrated the improvements in clinical and functional outcomes compared with preoperatory status in both groups irrespective of a previous HTO. After UKA, a prior HTO was a determinant for having decreased postoperative clinical and functional outcomes.
