Medial rectus advancement for secondary exotropia
American Journal of Ophthalmology Aug 25, 2020
Umfress AC, Flowers AM, Liu Y, et al. - In patients with secondary exotropia, researchers conducted this retrospective, interventional case series to determine the preoperative features and surgical outcomes following medial rectus advancement. The sample consisted of 221 patients with a diagnosis of secondary exotropia who had medial rectus advancement surgery by a single surgeon. One hundred seventeen patients had pre-op adduction deficits, which were significantly linked to the finding of an intraoperative stretched scar. Larger preoperative duction deficits were related to larger stretched scars. Findings suggested that medial rectus advancement leads to successful surgical results at POM2 for secondary exotropia.
