Medial plating of pauwels type iii femoral neck fractures decreases shear and angular displacement compared with a derotational screw
Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma Dec 04, 2020
Nwankwo CD, Schimoler P, Greco V, et al. - This mechanical study was intended to match 2 methods of augmented stabilization of Pauwels type III femoral neck fractures. Researchers cut 22 cm distal to the lesser trochanter in ten matched pairs of young cadaveric femurs. They estimated angular displacement (varus), interfragmentary (shear) displacement, and failure loads. According to the findings, augmenting sliding hip screw stabilization of a Pauwels type III fracture with a medial plate used to the femoral neck significantly reduces angular displacement and shear displacement in comparison with augmentation with a derotational screw.
