Medial Open Transversus Abdominis Plane (MOTAP) catheters reduce opioid requirements and improve pain control following open liver resection: A multicenter, blinded, randomized controlled trial
Annals of Surgery Aug 01, 2018
Karanicolas PJ, et al. - Via conducting a blinded, randomized, controlled parallel-arm trial at 2 high-volume centers, researchers assessed the efficacy of a regional technique called Medial Open Transversus Abdominis Plane (MOTAP) catheter analgesia vs intravenous, patient-controlled analgesia (IV PCA) for conventional pain management following open liver resection. Compared with IV PCA, MOTAP catheter analgesia led to a reduction in opioid requirements, pain, and length of hospital stay following open liver resection with subcostal incisions.
