Mechanical, inflammatory, and embolic complications of myocardial infarction: An emergency medicine review
The American Journal of Emergency Medicine Apr 12, 2019
Montrief T, et al. - Researchers undertook this narrative review to summarize the current data for the emergency medicine evaluation and management of post myocardial infarction mechanical, inflammatory, and embolic complications. They noted significant morbidity and mortality in correlation to mechanical, inflammatory, and embolic complications of acute myocardial infarction. Rapid diagnoses of these conditions is recommended while evaluating for other diseases. The researchers suggested performing electrocardiogram and bedside echocardiogram to assess quick, noninvasive determinations of the underlying pathophysiology in addition to understanding the natural progression of disease and performing a focused physical examination. In these cases, presentation and etiology were noted as influencing management, and close consultation with cardiology and cardiac surgery were recommended.
