Measuring and managing blood pressure in a primary care setting: A pragmatic implementation study
Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine May 26, 2018
Doane J, et al. - Considering the significance of accurate blood pressure (BP) measurement in hypertension diagnosis and management, researchers investigated if automated office blood pressure (AOBP) and home blood pressure measurement (HBPM) could improve assessment in a primary care clinic via analyzing the implementation of an AOBP/HBPM program in 2015 to 2016. This clinic-based AOBP/HBPM program identified white-coat BP elevation in one-third of enrolled patients and facilitated control of home BP. The program was acceptable to staff and patients. A temporary period of incorrect AOBP technique, patients failing to provide HBPM results, and incorrect HBPM technique were identified as the barriers to implementation.
