Meaning in life as a mediator between physical impairment and the wish to hasten death in patients with advanced cancer
Journal of Pain and Symptom Management Aug 22, 2017
Guerrero–Torrelles M, et al. – The purpose of this study is to examine the association between the wish to hasten death (WTHD) and meaning in life (MiL), and to propose a theoretical model of functional relationships between WTHD, performance status, depression and MiL. The physicians bolster the proposed model and give evidence of a mediator effect of MiL and depression on the correlation between physical impairment and the WTHD in advanced patients. The findings imply that in this population, interventions to enhance MiL can help to address and/or prevent the emergence of a WTHD.
