Maxillomandibular advancement is a successful treatment for obstructive sleep apnoea: A systematic review and meta-analysis
International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Jun 07, 2018
John CR, et al. - Researchers ascertained the efficacy of maxillomandibular advancement (MMA) as a successful treatment modality in improving airway patency in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). As per the data, the outcome of MMA intervention was significantly influenced by the preoperative severity of OSA based on apnoea–hypopnoea index (AHI) and respiratory disturbance index (RDI), with the pre-MMA AHI values and the percentage change post-intervention being strongly correlated in a positive manner. In patients with OSA, the surgical success of MMA was seen to be 100% with respect to AHI and RDI scores. Findings suggested the success of MMA as a treatment for OSA.
