Maternal smoking during pregnancy and risks to depression and anxiety in offspring: An observational study and genome-wide gene-environment interaction analysis in UK Biobank cohort
Journal of Psychiatric Research Jun 05, 2021
Chu X, Ye J, Wen Y, et al. - Researchers intended to determine if there is an association between maternal smoking during pregnancy (MSDP) and anxiety/depression in offspring. Participants from the UK Biobank cohort (n = 371,903-432,881) were analyzed. Genetic correlation analysis of anxiety/depression and smoking was carried out by the LDSC software utilizing the published genome-wide association study summary data of four smoking traits (n = 337,334-1,232,091), anxiety (n = 31,880), and depression (n = 490,359). The findings revealed that MDSP had a significant impact on the risk of anxiety in offspring, which may be due to environment-gene interactions.
