Maternal hepatitis B or C status and the long-term risk of gastrointestinal morbidity for offspring: A population-based cohort study
Liver International Jul 24, 2019
Yoles I, et al. - Through a population-based cohort analysis, the researchers assessed the relationship between maternal hepatitis B or C (HBV/HCV) carrier status and long-term gastrointestinal (GI) morbidities in offspring. Out of 242,342 newborns who met the inclusion criteria, 771 were born to HBV/HCV mothers and 241,571 did not have it. A greater incidence of GI diseases was observed in offspring to HBV/HCV mothers. The Cox proportional hazards models, which adjusted for gestational age, mode of delivery and pregnancy complications had a notable elevated risk. Hence, for the long-term gastrointestinal morbidity of offspring, maternal HBV or HCV carrier status was concluded as an independent risk factor.
