Maternal glycaemic control and risk of neonatal hypoglycaemia in type 1 diabetes pregnancy: A secondary analysis of the CONCEPTT trial
Diabetic Medicine May 24, 2019
Yamamoto JM, et al. - In the Continuous Glucose Monitoring in Type 1 Diabetes Pregnancy Trial (CONCEPTT), researchers investigated the connection between maternal glycemic control and neonatal hypoglycemia risk (defined as glucose concentration < 2.6 mmol/l and requiring intravenous dextrose) utilizing conventional and continuous glucose monitoring metrics. The study sample consisted of 225 pregnant women and their liveborn infants. According to findings, modest increases in continuous glucose monitoring time-in-target (5-7% increase) during the second and third trimesters were linked to decreased risk for neonatal hypoglycemia. The higher birth weight and skinfold measures related to neonatal hypoglycemia infer that risk was linked to fetal hyperinsulinemia prior to the immediate intrapartum period, though more intrapartum continuous glucose monitoring data is necessary.
