Maternal dietary glycemic and insulinemic indixes are not associated with birth outcomes or childhood adiposity at 5 years of age in an Irish cohort study
The Journal of Nutrition May 19, 2019
Chen LW, et al. - Using data from 842 mother-child pairs from the Lifeways prospective cohort study in Ireland, researchers assessed offspring birth outcomes and postnatal adiposity in relation to maternal glycemic index (GI), glycemic load (GL), insulinemic index (II), and insulinemic load (IL) in a general pregnant population. For this purpose, they performed multivariable-adjusted regression analysis. Using a validated food-frequency questionnaire in early pregnancy (12–16 wk), maternal GI, GL, II, and IL were evaluated using a standard methodology. Using hospital records, birth outcomes were extracted. Findings revealed no clear link between maternal GI, GL, II, and IL and offspring birth outcomes and childhood obesity.
