Maternal depressive symptoms during and after pregnancy and child developmental milestones
Depression and Anxiety Apr 23, 2018
Tuovinen S, et al. - Maternal depressive symptoms during and after pregnancy have been found to predict poorer child neurodevelopment, so researchers examined the effects of timing, symptom severity, and additive influences. Findings affirm that antenatal and post-pregnancy depression have additive effects on neurodevelopment. They noted children of mothers with the most chronic and severe depressive symptoms during pregnancy have the most neurodevelopmental disadvantages. Findings thereby accentuate the adverse effects of maternal depression during and after pregnancy and in early childhood on child neurodevelopment.
