Maternal COVID-19 infection, clinical characteristics, pregnancy, and neonatal outcome: A prospective cohort study
European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology Jul 30, 2020
Antoun L, El Taweel N, Ahmed I, et al. - Via this prospective cohort study, researchers sought to ascertain how COVID-19 affects pregnancy and neonatal outcomes. They prospectively gathered and analysed data for a cohort of 23 pregnant patients including singleton and multiple pregnancies who were tested positive for COVID-19. At the time of manuscript submission, delivery of 20 babies including a set of twins, with four ongoing pregnancies, were reported among these women. Observations revealed high prevalence of preterm birth, preeclampsia, and cesarean section in correlation with COVID-19 vs non−COVID pregnancies. The newborns had no COVID-19 infection and none of them developed severe neonatal complications.
