Maternal COVID-19 infection, clinical characteristics, pregnancy, and neonatal outcome: A prospective cohort study
European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology Jul 18, 2020
Antoun A, El Taweel N, Ahmed I, et al. - Researchers sought to determine how COVID-19 has affected pregnancy and neonatal outcomes via performing a prospective cohort study of 23 pregnant patients including singleton and multiple pregnancies tested positive for COVID-19 in a large tertiary maternity unit within a university hospital with an average annual birth of over 10,000 births. Outcomes revealed correlation of COVID-19 with high prevalence of preterm birth, preeclampsia, and cesarean section compared with non-COVID pregnancies. The newborns were not identified to be positive for COVID-19 infection and none of them developed severe neonatal complications.
