Widmer M, Piaggio G, Hofmeyr GJ, et al. - Using secondary analysis of the WHO CHAMPION trial data, researchers explored the connection between socio-demographic, pregnancy and childbirth factors and refractory postpartum haemorrhage (PPH), and contrasted the causes of PPH between women with refractory PPH, and women responsive to first-line PPH treatment. The investigation randomly assigned almost 30,000 women across 23 sites in 10 countries. Compared with those with first-line treatment responsive PPH, those with refractory PPH displayed a different pattern of maternal characteristics and PPH causes.
