Maternal and perinatal mortality and complications associated with cesarean section in low-income and middle-income countries: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Sobhy S, et al. - For the assessment of maternal burden and perinatal mortality and morbidity, and risk factors after cesarean sections authors conducted a study in female subjects from low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs). They excluded subjects from high-income countries, those involving non-pregnant women, case reports, and studies published before 1990. Females undergoing cesarean sections in LMICs were the main focus of interest for the prevalence of maternal mortality. A higher rate of death was noticed in perinatal females following cesarean sections in LMICs. Major risks being timing and urgency of the cesarean section.
