Maternal and fetal prognosis of subsequent pregnancy in black African women with peripartum cardiomyopathy
BMC Cardiovascular Disorders Jun 22, 2018
Yameogo NV, et al. - In this study involving women that had subsequent pregnancy (SSP) after peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM), researchers assessed the maternal and fetal outcomes up to one week after discharge. They analyzed clinical and echocardiographic data for alive and deceased women. Evaluation of factors related to pregnancy outcomes was also carried out. They found severe outcomes of SSP, including high maternal mortality. Ventricular systolic function at admission (due to pregnancy) was found to be associated with maternal mortality. A link was also found between baseline left ventricular ejection fraction before pregnancy and fetal outcomes.
