Maternal age at last birth and leukocyte telomere length in a nationally representative population of perimenopausal and postmenopausal women
Menopause Nov 20, 2020
Latour CD, O’Connell K, Romano ME, et al. - The present study was performed to explore whether maternal age at birth of last child is associated with leukocyte telomere length in a nationally representative population of perimenopausal and postmenopausal women. Between 1999 and 2002, researchers performed a cross-sectional analysis including a total of 1,232 women from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey to analyze maternal age at last birth and telomere length. Perimenopausal and postmenopausal women age 40 years and older were included in the analysis. In a nationally representative population of women, later maternal age was correlated with longer telomere length. These outcomes give new insight into the biological association between reproductive history and long-term health.
