Maternal acetaminophen use during pregnancy and childhood behavioural problems: Discrepancies between mother- and teacher-reported outcomes
Paediatric and Perinatal Epidemiology Nov 16, 2019
Parker SE, et al. - Researchers performed this longitudinal study to evaluate the link between maternal acetaminophen use during pregnancy and behaviour problems in childhood based on mother- and teacher-report. They analyzed 560 mother-child pairs. They studied the available information regarding illnesses and medication use during pregnancy as well as neurodevelopmental evaluations during childhood. The use of acetaminophen during pregnancy was reported by nearly 60% (n = 354) of women. Based on the mother report but not the teacher report, an increment in total behaviour problem score and risk of clinical behaviour problems was revealed in correlation with acetaminophen use during pregnancy. Overall, findings revealed a weak link of acetaminophen use during pregnancy with mother-reported behaviour problems and no link with teacher-reported problems.
