Material, behavioral, and psychological financial hardship among survivors of childhood cancer in the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study
Cancer Jun 10, 2021
Fair D, Park ER, Nipp RD, et al. - In this investigation, researchers sought to examine material, behavioral, and psychological financial hardship utilizing data from the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (CCSS). A survey from 698 survivors and 210 siblings from the CCSS has been analyzed. Multivariable logistic regressions were performed to investigate the clinical and sociodemographic predictors of experiencing financial hardship (0-2 vs ≥ 3 instances). There was no substantial difference in the intensity of financial hardship between survivors and siblings. Survivors who were older at the time of diagnosis, female, and had chronic health conditions faced more hardship. Brain radiation and alkylating agents were linked to higher levels of hardship. The material, behavioral, and psychological financial burden is common among childhood cancer survivors.
