Markers of acute kidney injury in patients with sepsis: The role of soluble thrombomodulin

Katayama S, et al. – This study entails the comparison between various biomarkers of endothelial injury, coagulation, and inflammation and, determination of a significant predictor of acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients with sepsis. In sepsis patients with AKI, endothelial biomarkers underwent significant changes. In sepsis patients, soluble thrombomodulin [sTM] independently predicted AKI development and, outperformed other coagulation and inflammation biomarkers as well as organ function.
