Podeur F, Pommier P, Crozes C, et al. - In the management of head and neck carcinoma of unknown primary (HNCUP), defined by the absence of primary despite a PET-CT combined with a panendoscopy, researchers sought to compare the outcome of postoperative unilateral cervical nodes radiotherapy (UL-RT) vs bilateral cervical nodes plus total mucosal irradiation (COMP-RT). Participants in the study were 69 people (23 received UL-RT while 46 received COMP-RT) with unilateral HNCUP. No significant difference was observed in the primary tumor emergence rate, cervical node recurrence rate, or overall survival between UL-RT and COMP-RT groups within 6.3 years of median follow-up. In the UL-RT group, a trend toward QOL improvement was noted. In unilateral HNCUP management, UL-RT appears to provide comparable outcomes as COMP-RT.
