Management of stage I squamous cell carcinoma of the anal canal
JAMA Surgery Oct 26, 2017
Chai CY, et al. - This study assessed the use of local excision among patients with T1 squamous cell carcinoma of the anal canal (SCCAC) and, overall survival between patients who were treated with local excision vs. those who received standard treatment with chemoradiotherapy. Although no clear decrement in overall survival was reported among those treated with local excision alone for T1N0 SCCAC, its use has significantly increased over time. Future studies were recommended for the further exploration of the role as well as efficacy of local excision relative to the current standard of chemoradiotherapy as the former may represent a lower-cost, less morbid treatment option for select patients with SCCAC.
